Abstract

Infantile spasms (IS; West syndrome) is a severe form of encephalopathy that typically affects infants younger than 2 years old. Information about infantile spasms in Indian literature is very sparse. Educating pediatricians and general pediatric health care providers about infantile spasms may be especially important as a recent Infantile Spasm working group (ISWG) of pediatric neurologists reviewed the literature and determined that early recognition of infantile spasm and prompt treatment are mandatory and may improve developmental and cognitive outcomes in some patients.
