Abstract
The angle of anteversion of neck of femur is defined as the angle made by the intersection of the transcondylar plane and the neck axis. In adults, the average angle of anteversion of femoral neck has been documented to range from -25o to +37o. The study was carried out to find the normal value of angle of anteversion of human femora as well as to find if there is any difference in the values of right and left side as well as sexual dimorphism. The study sample consisted of 227 dried human femora (102 right, 125 left) (118 male, 26 female, 83 unknown sex). The femora were obtained from the dead bodies received at the Anatomy Department, M P Shah Government Medical College, Jamnagar, Gujarat. The angle of femoral torsion was measured by using a parallelograph as described by Singh and Bhasin as well as by Wilder H. H. The data was statistically analysed using SPSS software for statistics and the results were compared with those of other series. The mean angle of anteversion of neck of femur obtained in present study on dry femora was 7.5o. The means of femoral torsion were not statistically different either by side or by gender.
