Abstract

Leg length discrepancy is one of the conditions which can have a wide range of implications including back ache. One of the factors for leg length discrepancy is inequality / deformity of the skeletal elements or bones.  Tibia being one of the bones in the lower limb length inequality of the length of tibea of the two sides needs evaluation. Present study is an attempt to study the prevalence of inequality of tibia from the cadaveric collection; Study was done on the collection of tibea in the Bone Bank of Dept of Anatomy, Govt. Medical College, Aurangabad. 100 pairs of human adult tibea of known sex and free from obvious deformity were used in the present study (70  males and 30 females) measurements were done using osteometer and statistically analysed Approximately 16% of the samples showed statistically significant inequality i.e. more than 5 mm length difference. Of these (18% of male samples and 10% of female samples). The findings are in corroboration with a number of previous workers. LLD prevalence gives an idea about the possibility of an important etiology in low back pain and hence should be emphatically considered for the evaluation of low back pain and their remedies.
