Abstract

This paper studies the application of system reliability theory with certain modifications to a four lane highway. It can be modeled the four lane highway as a series parallel system. To analyze traffic accident frequency and reliability of each Lane, we generated number of accidents in each section by using simulation technique. Assuming that the time between two accidents will follow an exponential distribution, we determined reliability and accident frequency of each Lane along with its sections. Based on the results obtained, conclusions were drawn.
