Optimum Stratification in the Estimation of Pooled Variance under Proportional Allocation

Present paper deals with the problem of optimum stratification when the parameter of interest is pooled variance. In this paper, an estimator of pooled variance is suggested and minimal equations to get optimum boundary points are obtained by minimizing the variance of the estimator under proportional allocation. The stratification is done on the study variable. Further, by assuming rectangular distribution within each stratum, optimum boundary points are obtained. Approximate boundary points are also obtained by deriving the approximate minimal equations on the line of Ekman (1958).
