Abstract

A surveillance system for detecting increases in congenital malformation such as cleft lip and palate is applied for a single hospital. For the cleft lip and palate congenital malformation data which was collected from the government organization for the period of 2000 to 2012, we applied the sets method and the cumulative sum technique (CUSUM) and both methods compared.  The sets method is shown to be more efficient than the CUSUM technique to detect sudden shift from the normal rate of the cleft lip and palate congenital malformation to an increased rate.
